In December 2012 the Qatar Foundation will open one of the most modern, all-digital medical centers designed to offer latest state of the art medical care and technology. The Medical Center is associated with Weill Cornell Medical College to provide medical education in the region. The medical center is part of the Education City campus and will have initially 388 beds and later expanded to 550 beds. The medical center will deliver world class healthcare and promote healing. In addition the facility will have a specialty care cert for Women and children and provide the environment for biomedical research.

Education City, Qatar is an initiative of the private, non-profit organization, the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, which was founded in 1995 by the Emir of Qatar. It is set on a 2,500-acre campus on the outskirts of the capital, Doha, Qatar. Education City hosts branch campuses of five American universities (Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, and Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, and is also home to educational institutions for children and teens, and research institutions (i.e., RAND-Qatar Policy Institute, Qatar Science & Technology Park, Qatar National Research Fund). Education City is also the home of the Qatar Music Academy/Qatar Symphony Orchestra.
